If you’re not familiar with Project SAM – they are the makers of the very well reputed Symphobia series as well as libraries such as True Strike and Swing! and Swing More!
They also have one of the best free instrument packs I’ve come across thus far in my composing and sample library collection journey. Granted, it doesn’t work fully with the free version of Kontakt (it will time out after 15 min) but it’s VERY easy to just reload as needed and bounce your midi down to audio – as I’ve done in this overview video.
One of the things I find most useable about Project SAM’s free instruments is how well they blend with each other and with my other libraries. The sounds are very detailed and clear, without too much reverb or low to mid mud.
I’m a fan and user of many Spitfire libraries, but straight out of the box – they often sound muddy when mixed together and often times the reverb and blend level is hard to truly get where I want it to be. My impression of Project SAM’s stuff thus far is that it has more detail and life to it with stronger articulations that work particularly well for film and game composition.
I hope the video above proves useful to you and that you’ll check out The Free Orchestra series. To this point, I’m pleasantly surprised and look forward to when I can get more of Project SAM’s libraries.
If you’re interested in learning more about their other products in greater detail, check out Daniel James’ YouTube channel – which has loads of great insight into Symphobia and many other libraries.
Lastly, if you have any questions or comments – don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m happy to share whatever I can to help you out as you express more of your creative voice!
All the best,
Andrew
